Our calling is silver for its eternal value and plasticity.  Our connection to this metal dates back generations to our roots in central Peloponnese and its silver-smithing capital, Stemnitsa (picture).  Our maternal grandmother’s ancestors became famed crafters and contributed to the development of Stemnitsa’s jewelry tradition.  We are proud for our connection to theio Lambis Katsoulis, an unassuming, exceptionally talented man who created the silver-smithing school of Stemnitsa.  During WWII, our connection to silver was interrupted.  In the 1980s our mother Marina, a visionary and talented woman, created the KANELLOS/ΚΑΝΕΛΛΟΣ Greek Jewelry store in the heart of the Athens Flea Market, on IFESTOU St. in Monastiraki.

Marina’s instinct in choosing very fine, locally made, silver jewelry representing all epochs of the art in Greece has contributed to our clientele from all over the world.

Marina is assisted by her daughter Angeliki (an avid reader), surrogate daughters Maryanne (an artistic spirit), Roberta (a multilingual crafter) and grand daughter Koralia (a creative spirit and traveler).

OUR LOCATION

We are just one block from the Ancient Agora, the Ancient Athenian Market Place where democracy was born.  We are thrilled every morning to open our store on Ifestou st with the knowledge that market activity here dates back to the Neolithic Period.  We are self-appointed custodians of the surroundings of the sacred Agora of Athens.

Our roots in ifestou st date back to the 1940s, when our “patriarch” Andreas came to Athens from Southern Peloponnese.  His presence in the market is legendary and we are proud to continue his tradition of hard work and love for the Agora.
